Other than a stint during the Beatles invasion when blue was my fav color, green was IT for me – long before it became synonymous with healing a damaged planet! There was a reason, for nearly as long as I can remember I have had houseplants, (Thank-you Merrylee G) in the bedroom of my childhood and all times since.. I think mom had them even before I did.
Then there are the cherished memories of my beloved father – Dirt on his hands and clothes from gardening in his rather upscale suburban NYC home’s veggie garden – with a look of peace, serenity and balance I don’t think he got elsewhere. He grew the sweetest cucumbers I have had the honor to crunch fresh of the vine! I still feel I honor his serenity and bring him near to me when I work dirt with my hands.
But green, oh sweet green! the color of spring, of life, of renewal, of rebirth, of hope, of opportunity. So obvious the symbolism it borders on the maudlin!
If you do not LOVE green, go to a park, any park (that has green) if not, go to a greenhouse, a nursery, a flower shop. Go ahead and stop to smell the roses, after that, stop and observe the green. Such variety, such nuance, such texture, a language in green, a world in green. There is no more fitting symbol for the hope for a single individual or the whole of the environment, green is our gift to ourselves and all generations – human and creature – that shall follow in our significant wake.
And yes,I do unashamedly hug trees and talk to plants great & small, indoor and out! If you don’t, I guess the reasonable question is WHY NOT?
Honor your home. Honor your nature. Embrace green.
In all it’s forms

Just wanted to put my two cents worth in about Gina D’Abella. If it weren’t for her, there would be NO awareness in Maricopa. One of the City Councilmembers recently referred to her as “our local granola.” She is tireless in her efforts and although I don’t have the pleasure of knowing her very well, I do know of her and admire her.
